‘Phablets’ – because apparently some of us couldn’t decide whether we wanted a phone or a tablet.
It’s time we all take Phablets seriously, the cross-breed has even earned itself a place in the Oxford dictionary.
early 21st century: blend of phone1 and tablet
Clearly the first benefit is that you have the convenience of a smartphone combined with the large screen of a tablet.
The average smartphone screen is usually rather unsatisfying but we still want something more portable than a tablet, right?
However, although the idea of mixing portability with the big screen experience sounds lovely. In reality Phablets are two-hand devices – this may displease the smooth and experienced single hand user.
But of course if you were planning to buy a tablet, purchasing a Phablet may be a cheaper option AND of course the multi-functional device will double up as your brand new smartphone too.
Lets take a look at a live one. Introducing the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.
Although the Galaxy Note 3 has a similarity in design to the Galaxy phones, Samsung have tried to give the Note 3 a more premium look. Rather than the usual glossy plastic back used, the Galaxy Note 3 features a leather-look back.
Samsung have combined the leather back with chromed and ridged plastic edges, to finish off the look.
However, I think it’s down to personal taste. I’d rather have a fake leather back or a glossy plastic back than shiny glass, far too fragile!
In fact the Note 3 is definitely far from fragile. Samsung made sure their phablet was solidly built and shows no weakness. Weighing in at 168 grams – around the same weight of 67 pennies, the Note 3 keeps it’s elegance through it’s lightweight feel.
The front of the device is dominated by a magnificent, bright and colourful large 5.7in screen. Equipped with full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, visually everything is pin sharp, looks like it’s here you’re getting your premium quality.
However you’re paying a premium price too. At 594.99, the Galaxy Note 3 is quite pricey but as quoted by the Guardian, ‘If you’re after a phablet, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is the best one available right now‘
We’ll talk you through why the guardian may have said that. The Galaxy Note 3 not only has a luxurious screen, feather light feel but is fully equipped with an a ray of amazing features.
First up, the Note 3 gives us the power to multi-task freely, smartly and effortlessly. By using the ‘Drag & Drop’ mode in new Multi Window, you can easily drag and drop words or captured images from one window to the other in an instant for enhanced productivity across different applications.
Also, you can now open the same application in two windows at the same time: read the news in one browser while searching in another or chat with two different people on ChatON, etc.
More so, this device lets you get really personal with it’s ‘My Magazine’ feature.
The GALAXY Note 3 lets you own a large-screen, magazine-type interface designed by you.
Enjoy the news, social media and more you’re interested in, all in one place in a modern and dynamic presentation. With My Magazine, you won’t miss out on anything that’s important to you.
