Use Apple’s Health app to set up an emergency Medical ID

We highly recommend the “Medical ID” feature of the Apple Health app for anyone with medical issues or interested in setting up a contact for emergencies.

To access the feature:

1. Launch the Health app from your home screen

Create Emergency Medical ID on iPhone Health App

2. Tap the Medical ID Menu in the bottom right

3. Choose “Create Medical ID”

From here you can add a custom picture and name, date of birth, list of medical conditions, notes, allergies, reactions, medications, blood type, height and weight, and whether or not you are an organ donor (dependent on how much information you would like to, or feel is necessary, to include). You can also create an emergency contact with name, telephone number and relationship. Once created, you can make changes at any time by going back into the Health app.

If you have locked your iPhone with a passcode, we recommend you consider enabling the “Show When Locked” function, to provide first responders with access to your Medical ID. Enabling this feature allows your Medical ID to be viewed by swiping the lock screen, tapping “Emergency” and then viewing the information.
