Google launches it’s Pixel Smartphone

Design

Google has recently announced the launch of it’s Pixel Smartphone, available as the Pixel or Pixel XL. The Pixel is around the same size as the Apple iPhone 7, although it sports a slightly larger screen at 5″ instead of 4.7″. The Pixel display is 1080p, where as the Pixel XL features a quad-HD display that offers 5.5″ of viewing. Both displays offer sharp and colourful visuals, however the Pixel XL’s higher resolution does mean it would work better with Google’s new Daydream virtual reality headset. Both the Pixel phones feature a glass-aluminium body with easy-to-grip curved edges and are available in Very Silver and Quite Black.

Features

The Pixel is the first phone with Google’s Assistant built in, giving you the opportunity to be more productive with a host of features. You can ask the assistant questions such as when a local place is closing or if the day’s weather will require a coat. Managing tasks is easier with the ability to create events and set reminders, from putting on the washing to finishing that all important report for your meeting tomorrow. You can also use the assistant to find photos, translate on the go and even keep tabs on travel, whether you need to check your flight’s on time, look up your itinerary or find the address of your hotel.

The Pixel features a 12.3MP rear camera with a f/2.0 aperture, similar to Samsung’s S7 and HTC’s One M10 12MP camera’s. However the Pixel camera has been rated the best-ever 89 DxOMark Mobile score, and is praised for stunning photos in low light, bright light or any light. The selfie camera on the other hand is an 8MP camera. One of our favourite features however, is the Pixel’s unlimited storage for your photos and videos, allowing you to snap and save without worrying about ‘storage full’ notifications.

Google’s also ensured that switching to it’s Pixel smartphone is easier than ever, whether you’re moving from an Android model or an iPhone. The new Quick Switch Adapter allows you to connect your device to the Pixel, from there you’ll need to sign in to your account and then choose what you want to move over, such as your contacts, calendar events, photos, videos, music, SMS messages, iMessages and more.
