6 days until the LG Prize Draw

The LG raffle is open to all and will run between the 17th of April and 31st of May, to support the launch of LG’s new G6. The grand prize is a Mercedes Benz A200 Sport worth more than £20,000.

There will be weekly draws every Sunday, with the main prize-winner of the Mercedes being chosen on May 31st. Other prizes include a 55-inch LG OLED TV, an LG G6 Ice Platinum, an LG Watch Style and an LG Bluetooth speaker.

You can register online where you’ll receive three raffle tickets. To earn additional tickets you can share videos on social media via the G6, referring family and friends or by entering an IMEI number from a G6 handset. To do so, go to the settings menu, then go to “phone settings” and tap on “Device information.” On the following page tap “Status.” On the status page you’ll have a variety of details, including a listing for your IMEI number.

The G6 was unveiled at Mobile World Congress in February. It boasts a 5.7-inch Quad HD+ display in a full metal case and a 13 mega-pixel dual-lens camera that can shoot 4K video. For more on the G6 and further phones that were released at this year’s congress, click here.

Disappointingly the Honor 8 is packed with the older version of Android and runs on Marshmallow (6) rather than Android’s latest Nougat operating system. However at just £369 SIM-free, the Honor 8 has plenty of features that offer great value for money.

To celebrate it’s 10 year partnership with RED – the organisation that fights for a HIV/AIDS‑free generation by creating (PRODUCT)RED merchandise, Apple has released a vibrant red version of it’s flagships, the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. For every red iPhone sold, a percentage of gross profits will go to the Global Fund to help fund AIDS programmes in Africa.

The Global Fund uses the money solely for the programmes with no overheads taken out. The programmes include counselling, testing and medicine that prevents the transmission of HIV from a mother to her unborn child. So far, RED has generated $456 million to support The Global Fund, with Apple’s current contribution at more than $130 million since it’s partnership in 2007.

Across the UK, Vodafone and O2 customers have been receiving various phishing emails. Phishing emails are types of emails usually sent by hackers who impersonate organisations in order to acquire your personal information or to spread a virus to your device.

Both emails are clearly designed by malicious hackers to panic recipients into clicking the link to see how they’ve run up such a large bill.

How can you identify a phishing email? 

We always recommend that you check the sender of the email. For example, this email above is from “Vodafone 0nline [mailto:montaz@electro-welle.pl” which is NOT a legitimate Vodafone email. Typically, a Vodafone email will always end with the domain @vodafone.co.uk@vodafone.com  or @help.vodafone.co.uk such as noreply@help.vodafone.co.uk. While the official O2 weblink for checking your bill is http://www.o2.co.uk/myo2.

Further warning signs include poor spelling, a strange address which is unusually long and full of special characters, letters and numbers, such as ‘1xxhshf3843334ghh’.

Design

The Galaxy S8 is Samsung’s latest flagship, available in a variety of colours: Midnight Black, Arctic Silver, Orchid Grey – that has a slight purple tinge to it, Coral Blue and Maple Gold. However in the UK, you’ll be able to get hold of just two colours at launch – Midnight Black and Orchid Gray, with Arctic Silver coming soon. The edge-to-edge display stretches to 5.8″, yet the metal body remains thin and light at 155 grams. Quite an achievement considering the screen has increased by 0.7″ inches compared to the S7 yet the weight has only increased by 3 grams.  Although larger, it’s worth noting that the S8 can still be held comfortably in one hand. As per usual in Samsung’s Galaxy range, the S8 is IP68 water and dust resistant, meaning it can withstand 30 minutes in depths of 1.5 metres, for added durability. Finally, the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the rear and can now be found to the right of the camera.

Not only has the display size been taken up a notch but so has the storage space with 64GB of on board storage, compared to the S7’s 32GB. Further improvements include a promise of up to 27% higher performance and up to 40% higher efficiency. The new S8 supports Quick Charge 4.0 which offers an astonishing five hours life from a five-minute charge. However, the most notable new feature in the S8 is Bixby, a virtual assistant to rival the Google Assistant that is based on recently acquired Viv’s AI technology. Bixby is able to conduct mobile payments, control apps and even perform image search.

O2 launches app-less WiFi & 4G calling

O2 launches app-less WiFi & 4G calling

Previously, O2’s app ‘TU GO’ allowed you to text, call and check your voicemail over WiFi, irrelevant of whether or not you have a mobile signal. Now with O2’s new launch, WiFi and 4G calling will be automatic (where available) once you’re set up – no app needed.

The combination means you’ll be able to move uninterrupted between WiFi and 4G coverage to continue your call, while being able to check your email or browse the internet simultaneously. Giving you the benefit of fewer dropped calls and better indoor coverage, including the London Underground.

Cost & Availability – Update 28/06/17

O2 WiFi & 4G calling was limited to the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus but is now available for customers with the Sony XZ Premium or Samsung Galaxy S7 on Pay Monthly, SIM only and Business Tariffs, however more devices will be coming very soon. Any calls made over 4G or WiFi will be included in your usual tariff allowance, while out-of-tariff calls will be charged at your standard rate.
