BT to offer free Wi-Fi, mobile charging, calls and maps in London

BT to offer free Wi-Fi, mobile charging, calls and maps in London

The British broadband giant BT has teamed up with WiFi specialist LinkNYC and outdoor advertising agency Primesight to offer ultramodern kiosks in London. The new WiFi spots, dotted in various kiosks around the UK capital, will offer Londoners ‘the fastest’ public broadband speeds available, once they start the roll out in 2017.

The kiosks, called ‘Links’, will be installed across London’s major high streets and be able to offer hundreds of users speeds of up to 1Gbps from just one kiosk. If all goes to plan, more than 750 kiosks will be installed over the next few years, with more than 100 placed in Camden by 2017.

Better yet, these powerful kiosks will offer more than lightning speeds. You’ll be able to make calls, charge your smartphone and gain access to maps, all free of charge. All services are funded entirely from revenues made from the advertising on the Link’s digital displays. BT also intend to allocate 5% of airtime to non-commercial good causes to benefit the local community.

All existing BT phone boxes across the city will be replaced with the new kiosk system, with BT claming that they will take up less space on the streets than the traditional phone box. Each kiosk is set to feature embedded sensors that can track air and noise pollution, outdoor temperature and traffic conditions, with the purpose of introducing smart services to local councils.

  • And you can even use your existing domain name to create professional email addresses. So if you’re Tina from Dave’s Deliveries. You can have Tina@davesdeliveries.com, rather than an unpolished, less authentic address such as Tina@hotmail.com.
  • And while you take advantage of the Office 365 features,your organisation is gaining added protection from spam and viruses with Microsoft Forefront Online Protection. With multiple filters and virus-scanning engines, you can avoid another “Complete this survey for $3000!” email.

Create, and even Market your Own Site

  • Office 365 goes beyond email, and gives you the ability to create your business its very own ‘team site’. With this site you can share documents and information with colleagues, and even customers. With your important docs online, you can make sure the latest versions are always at hand. Exceptional Convenience with all the Apps you Need

  • Office 365 Web Apps are companions to Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote that offer you an easy way to access, view, and edit docs directly from your web browser. • Equip your business with instant messaging and conduct rich online meetings – including audio, video and web conferencing, with people both inside and outside of your organisation. Conduct a video call to a customer in need of support, or to your colleague upstairs to discuss your latest project. You can even share your screen. With screen sharing, your colleague, customer or whoever you’re connecting with, can see exactly what you’re looking at on your desktop. Maybe you’re showing that customer how to log into their online account with a live demonstration, or your colleague the changes you made to the project flyer. You can even give them control of your screen remotely so they can make any changes or scroll through. The Office 365 instant messenger offers a new way to improve your customer service and communication with colleagues and prospects, while cutting unnecessary travel and thus company expenses.

Google launches it’s Pixel Smartphone

Google launches it’s Pixel Smartphone

Design

Google has recently announced the launch of it’s Pixel Smartphone, available as the Pixel or Pixel XL. The Pixel is around the same size as the Apple iPhone 7, although it sports a slightly larger screen at 5″ instead of 4.7″. The Pixel display is 1080p, where as the Pixel XL features a quad-HD display that offers 5.5″ of viewing. Both displays offer sharp and colourful visuals, however the Pixel XL’s higher resolution does mean it would work better with Google’s new Daydream virtual reality headset. Both the Pixel phones feature a glass-aluminium body with easy-to-grip curved edges and are available in Very Silver and Quite Black.

Features

The Pixel is the first phone with Google’s Assistant built in, giving you the opportunity to be more productive with a host of features. You can ask the assistant questions such as when a local place is closing or if the day’s weather will require a coat. Managing tasks is easier with the ability to create events and set reminders, from putting on the washing to finishing that all important report for your meeting tomorrow. You can also use the assistant to find photos, translate on the go and even keep tabs on travel, whether you need to check your flight’s on time, look up your itinerary or find the address of your hotel.

The Pixel features a 12.3MP rear camera with a f/2.0 aperture, similar to Samsung’s S7 and HTC’s One M10 12MP camera’s. However the Pixel camera has been rated the best-ever 89 DxOMark Mobile score, and is praised for stunning photos in low light, bright light or any light. The selfie camera on the other hand is an 8MP camera. One of our favourite features however, is the Pixel’s unlimited storage for your photos and videos, allowing you to snap and save without worrying about ‘storage full’ notifications.

Google’s also ensured that switching to it’s Pixel smartphone is easier than ever, whether you’re moving from an Android model or an iPhone. The new Quick Switch Adapter allows you to connect your device to the Pixel, from there you’ll need to sign in to your account and then choose what you want to move over, such as your contacts, calendar events, photos, videos, music, SMS messages, iMessages and more.

Apple iOS 10

Siri comes to third-party apps

Apple’s virtual assistant is now able to control third-party apps, allowing you to use voice commands to initiate a Skype call with a client or colleague, order an Uber taxi for your next meeting, or send a message on Slack, a chat app specifically designed for business use.

Voice-mails transcribed

iOS 10 gives you the choice to transcribe your voice-mails, using voice recognition to convert your voice-mails into text. Allowing you to view your messages at a glance and take the toll off scrambling to jot down information, useful for those often in meetings or on the go that need a quicker way to check their messages. For this feature to work, your Siri language must be set to English (United States or Canada) and be supported by your carrier.

Improved continuity across your Apple devices

With iOS 10, you’re able to view and access all your desktop files and folders on your iPhone, which are synced across your devices, with thanks to iCloud. Better yet, iOS 10 introduces ‘Universal Clipboard’, a new tool that makes copying text, photos and more from your iPhone or iPad to your MacBook or Mac desktop easier than ever before, so you’ll no longer need to email links from your phone to your computer.

Updated messaging

The updated Messages app boosts productivity with new automation features. For example, the app now recognises when someone asks where you are, and then gives you the option to fire off a quick reply with your current location. The app also features improved text prediction, to avoid typos.

Advanced security and privacy

iOS 10 now requires your permission if an app in Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Photos or others want your location information or personal data. This features extends with even more control to the way in which HealthKit and HomeKit access your data. When it comes to your conversations, both iMessages and FaceTime are encrypted, so hackers waiting in the middle of a conversation won’t be able to see, hear or read what you are communicating. And when you are on Safari surfing the web, you can browse privately, block cookies, and prevent websites from tracking you. The new features help secure your personal protection with hardware and firmware that have been designed to protect against malware and viruses throughout the entire system.

Sony XZ Review

Design:

The XZ is Sony’s latest flagship device to join it’s new X series, featuring a 5.2″ full HD display with ever-so-slightly curved glass and rounded edges. The body is made from high purity ALKALEIDO™ metal giving the XZ depth and shine. With an IP68 rating, the Xperia XZ can be fully submerged in up to 1.5m of water for up to 30 minutes. However, Sony still advises that the XZ is not put completely underwater and is not exposed to the sea, salt water, chlorinated water or drinks, so the level of water resistance will cover the odd raindrop but shouldn’t be taken as a guarantee in more extreme environments. Colour variations include Mineral Black, White and Forest Blue, while accessories available include the ‘Style Cover Touch SCTF10′, allowing you to see your XZ notifications even when the cover is closed, thanks to a see-through front.  A smaller variation is also available, the Xperia X Compact, featuring a 4.6″ display.

Sony XZ Review

Features:

The XZ offers new and improved camera technology. Not only has the 13MP selfie shooter been updated but Sony has also maximised it’s image sensor by adding two additional assisting sensors to create Sony’s very own triple image sensing technology. This means you’ll be able to capture images in motion with true to life colours in virtually any condition – at stunning, blur-free quality.

Sony XZ Review

Teamed with the 23 megapixel rear camera that has the ability to go from standby to capture mode in just 0.6 seconds, it’s almost a guarantee you won’t miss a shot. Advanced features have also been added, such as shutter speeds and focus controls for those who would like to enhance the shooting experience. Although the XZ isn’t kitted out with Sony’s 4K screen as seen in the Xperia Z5 Premium, the XZ does have 4K video capabilities for high-quality recording, full of detail.

The XZ runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow, soon to be updated to Android Nougat. The OS remains fairly untouched, although Sony has made a few tweaks including it’s own lockscreen, settings menu and an extra panel in the app draw for suggested and recommended apps. And, similarly to previous Xperia models, PlayStation users can take advantage of PS Remote Play, which allows you to play games from your console, on your phone. Alongside Playstation, apps such as Facebook, Spotify, Lookout, Amazon Shopping and Sony’s Xperia Lounge and Lifelog, are pre-installed.

When it comes to the 2900mAh  battery, the XZ offers three power saving modes and Type-C USB for easy and quick charging. A notable feature for preserving the battery life is the XZ’s ability to learn when you wake up, and charge up to 90% through the night, only going to 100% when you’re about to wake up.

The handset is also powered by a 64-bit Quad-core processor and houses 32GB of memory as well as an SD memory card slot that can hold up to 256GB.
